Our daily breathing rhythm is fast and poor, usually due to stress or environmental factors. However, deep breathing is essential for re-centering ourselves, finding our inner peace, and living in the present.
It’s simple enough: by learning how to breathe deeply, we can experiment in bed and continuously heighten our sensations. Inhale slowly through the nose, then exhale carefully through the mouth, as if we’re breathing through a straw. It’s similar to the abdominal breathing that athletes practice. After a workout, we can try deep breathing during sex to ease and calm ourselves. Instantly, the body and mind connect and our sensations feel much stronger and more remarkable.
Use all five senses
Making love in a state of mindfulness opens up the path to pleasure. To reach a state of mindfulness, in addition to deep breathing and staying anchored in the moment, we have to use all five of our senses. What do I see? What do I feel? What is my lover’s skin like when I touch it? What does the caress of their hand between my legs make me feel? What about the taste of their mouth and the vibrations of their moans? Taking the time to question our sensations makes them immediately feel more powerful and palpable. When we focus our attention on what is happening, what we’re doing, and what we’re sharing, we forget time and the outside world. The fusion of our bodies takes center stage and our sensations are more intense.
Take it slow
When we’re driving 200 miles an hour, it’s difficult to appreciate the landscape around us. It’s blurry: a little green, a little blue, without a doubt beautiful, but mostly unknown to us. If we want to fully take in and admire our surroundings, it’s much better to take a bike ride or a walk. It’s the same thing during sex, so dare to slow down and take it all in; don’t rush to penetration!
Draw out the first caresses on the sensible spots of skin that we often forget, teasing your partner with warm, then cold, and warm stimulation again. It’s the best way to intensify the sensations and to make them more powerful (and noisier). Go slowly, softly and sensually to change it up!
